Yesterday I went out salsa dancing at the usual social venue. This time instead of only the regulars, there were professional dancers who visited the social due to the upcoming dance festival. From last night my observations were as follows.
- Excellence – The way the professionals danced compared with us normal people were night and day. They looked better, flowed better, better musicality and danced multiple types of dances effortlessly. Effortless sticks to my mind because whilst there were us people trying hard, they made it so easy. From deduction, to get to that level, we need to be doing things the rest of us normal people are not doing. Normal people get normal results. Extraordinary people get extraordinary results. From my research, these professionals have been dancing for years upon years. At least 10 years+ to get to that level. Thus, it can be deduced that for myself to get to that world-class level in anything, I will need to put in that time and iterations to get extraordinary results. Otherwise, I will be getting what everyone else is getting. Nowhere.
- Dance festivals are just for entertainment purposes only. Even though there are professional dance artists holding workshops, the real product are the parties and the community. No one really improves significantly after attending festivals. Its just a place to party and dance non-stop for a few days. Maybe watch some shows along the way and get some dance inspiration. The real improvement is done alone in front of a mirror, practicing until mastery.
A side quote from Marcus Aurelius which really stuck with me which relates to my journey to freedom:
“If you don’t have a consistent goal in life, you can’t live it in a consistent way.”
